Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Miyakonojo Izumigaoka Senior High School

2024/03/02

On 2 March 2024 a lecture was held at Miyakonojo Izumigaoka Senior High School in Miyazaki Prefecture.

The participants were engaged by Dean Kato’s research slides on "Decoding the Earth's Evolution", which Dean Kato has been researching. During the discussion after the lecture, many questions were asked about rare-earth elements and yttrium (REY) -rich mud. There were other comments, such as "I always pictured the Faculty of Engineering as simply manufacturing and machinery, so it was exciting to see these various disciplines and women in action that were different than I had imagined" and "I had financial concerns before, but was relieved to know that there were many different types of support available". Participants, including parents, could see the School’s diversity and attractiveness, and thanked us for broadening their thinking about their future career choices.
