Quantum Photonic Computer Research Support Fund

The Quantum Photonic Computer Research Support Fund supports research and development of quantum photonic computers at the Department of Physics Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo. These quantum computers use light particles (photons) and are a unique area of study. The rapid implementation of general-purpose quantum computers is seen as the only solution to the limitations of current supercomputers and communication infrastructure, especially in the face of the growing digital society utilizing AI and IoT.

What is the University of Tokyo Fund?

The University of Tokyo Fund was established in 2004, following the university's transition to a National University Corporation. In an era of accelerating globalization and intensifying inter-university competition, issues such as environmental challenges, energy concerns, and humanitarian crises have become more apparent, requiring global efforts. As a leading academic nation, Japan must contribute to solving these problems with knowledge.

Unlike European, American, and Asian countries that are expanding public investments in education and research, Japan has been cutting its budget for higher education and research year after year. In order for the University of Tokyo to maintain world-class education and research, a stable financial base through donations is essential.
