Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Senzoku Gakuen Junior and Senior High School

2024/07/10

On 10 July 2024, 250 first-year high school students attended the lecture.

Dean Kato spoke humorously about his life up to the point when he became a researcher, so the lecture was an enthusiastic combination of laughter and learning. The research projects of various professors from the Faculty of Engineering were presented one after the other, and many of the students said it was very helpful at a time when they were thinking about their career path choices, sharing comments such as "I became more interested in engineering and research careers, and it was a very useful time for me to think about my future", and "I was not sure whether to choose a humanities or a science major, nor which faculty to go to if I chose a science major, and I realized that engineering makes a significant contribution to society and also that the Faculty of Engineering is a very attractive faculty".

During the Q&A session, many questions were asked about Dean Kato's approach to life and a number of appreciative comments were received, including "Listening to his past experiences, I learned the importance of ‘being super-positive’ and moving forward no matter how many setbacks I had. I will work hard to aim for the University of Tokyo by encouraging myself to meet Dean Kato at the University of Tokyo" and "It was a great lecture that gave me a chance to think about my life in the future".
