On 6th March 2026, Yukiya Mita (M2), Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, received PSJ Yamashita SIG Research Award.
IPSJ Yamashita SIG Research Award
This award is presented by the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) to selected authors of particularly outstanding papers presented at IPSJ research meetings and symposia.
About awarded research
This research focuses on achieving high-accuracy indoor localization in environments where GPS (GNSS) signals are unavailable. Specifically, we focused on fingerprint-based positioning using acoustic signals and achieved positioning performance that exceeds conventional methods by proposing a new definition of fingerprints. Furthermore, by incorporating original improvements into deep learning models, we aim to achieve both high accuracy and environmental versatility, ensuring stable operation across diverse real-world settings.
Your impression & future plan
I am deeply honored to receive such a historic and prestigious award. Moving forward, I intend to develop this research further, focusing on the creation of systems that enable high-accuracy localization in unknown environments with minimal deployment costs. My ultimate goal is to facilitate the true social implementation and generalization of indoor localization technology.
