This award recognizes outstanding poster presentations at an international academic conference organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science (TMIMS). Presentations are evaluated based on the content, originality, and academic significance of the research. My presentation was selected as an outstanding poster presentation.

About awarded research

“Mononucleated vs Binucleated Hepatocytes -Functional Differences at Equivalent Ploidy-"
Binucleated hepatocytes, which contain two nuclei, are known to exist in the liver. However, it remains unclear whether mononucleated and binucleated hepatocytes differ in characteristics beyond their morphology. A major obstacle has been the lack of a technique to isolate these two populations separately.
In this study, we established a sorting method for mononucleated and binucleated hepatocytes based on the principle of doublet discrimination in flow cytometry. RNA sequencing using this method revealed that mononucleated hepatocytes exhibit broadly enhanced metabolic signatures compared with binucleated hepatocytes.

Your impression & future plan

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Yasuyuki Sakai for his extensive support throughout this research, Associate Professor Masaki Nishikawa for conceiving the study, and Assistant Professor Takeshi Katsuda for his direct guidance and for providing the core idea underlying this work. I am deeply honored to have received this award.
Motivated by this recognition, I will continue to pursue research on the dynamics of hepatocyte ploidy with renewed enthusiasm and dedication.
