On 20th August 2026, Yu Hashimoto (D1), Hirose Natsuaki Laboratory, Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, was awarded the Second Prize in the International URSI Student Paper Prize Competition.


International URSI Student Paper Prize Competition Second Prize
The URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (URSI GASS) is the longest-running international conference in the field of radio science, organized every three years by URSI (International Union of Radio Science) since 1922. URSI GASS 2026 was held in Kraków, Poland. The 13th International URSI Student Paper Prize Competition, held as part of URSI GASS, this research was awarded second place among the ten finalists.
About awarded research
In this study, we focused on L-band (1.2 GHz) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and detected and analyzed radio frequency interference (RFI) originating from communication and positioning systems operating in the same frequency band, with particular features on polarization. By analyzing actual RFI observations on a global scale and clarifying the polarization characteristics of RFI signals, we demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach for RFI mitigation.
