On 3rd March,2026, Professor Fujio Toriumi of the Department of Systems Innovation received the 1st Academic Contribution Award from the Japanese Association for Computational Social Science.

The Academic Contribution Award of the Computational Social Science Japan is presented to researchers who have made outstanding and long-term academic contributions to the field of computational social science and have significantly contributed to its development.

 

About awarded research

Through his research on information diffusion and social media communication, Professor Toriumi has contributed to building the foundation and advancing the field of computational social science, particularly by introducing information engineering methods to enable quantitative analysis of social phenomena. He has also addressed societal challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic through large-scale social media data analysis, providing insights into public sentiment and the spread of misinformation. In addition, he has advanced research on “Informational Health” and led the AIWolf project, exploring the interaction between information environments, humans, and AI.
