About awarded research

Title: Development of a DEM-CFD simulation model for an industrial powder die-filling system
Presentation overview:
Powder die filling is a critical pre-compaction step in powder forming processes, and it has a significant impact on product quality and productivity across a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, ceramics, powder metallurgy, and food production. With the recent advancement of digital transformation in manufacturing, the application of powder simulation technologies to die-filling processes has been increasingly anticipated. In this study, a simulation model for industrial powder die-filling systems was developed and proposed by integrating multiple simulation techniques based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM), which is the global standard for particle simulations. The validity of the model was then examined. Given the broad industrial relevance of die-filling processes and the limitations of existing methods in handling large-scale industrial systems, this study is expected to provide substantial industrial impact.
