Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Miyazaki-Omiya High School

On 14th June 2024, a lecture, which was attended by around 1,000 students from the entire school, covered topics including the attractiveness of UTokyo, the research activities of the Faculty of Engineering and the daily life of current UTokyo students.

After attending the lecture, students commented such as "It was good to know that science can make a big contribution to solving global problems and that people who choose to study engineering from the humanities are very active in the field" and "It was very stimulating to hear directly about real social and environmental issues, rather than getting information from the internet". As the title "Pioneering the future together" suggested, it seemed a good opportunity for them to reflect on their future career choices and contribution to society. After the lecture, the first and second-year students gathered together and exchanged their positive opinions, such as "I want to go and study in Dean Kato's research lab" and "I want to study law, but in the future, I want to think about how I can contribute to the world in collaboration with the engineering department". After the lecture, a long queue of students asked Dean Kato for his autograph, and the teachers thanked him for the encouragement he gave to each student.
