Japanese Language Class of the School of Engineering 「IKEBANA demonstration」

On November 12th, the JLCse hosted an ikebana demonstration by the Headmaster of the Ichiyo School of ikebana. Mr. Kasuya, the headmaster, arranged four forms of flowers and one taisaku. The first arrangement was an upright form with roses. The second one was a slanting form using stocks.  Eustomas (Texas bluebells) were the main flowers used in a flat form as the third arrangement. Then, he presented a hanging form as the fourth arrangement with beautiful lilies.

The last arrangement was taisaku (large-scale ikebana). Mr. Kasuya used two big containers with mulberry trees as his main branches. Then he added many flowers (such as cockscombs and asters) to his arrangement. It was fascinating to see him create a dynamic flower world with various kinds of plants. The audience felt an uplifting feeling through his flower arrangement.

Through this demonstration, students were able to experience ikebana as part of Japanese culture.

We truly appreciate all the work and assistance provided by Mr. Kasuya and members from the Ichiyo School of Ikebana.
