< About awarded research >

Spatiotemporal modulation of protein functions should allow site-specific disease treatment and elucidation of biological functions. We have been trying to manipulate proteins with light through development of macromolecules that change their structures in response to light irradiation. In this research, protein function was successfully modulated by attaching a switch-like molecule to proteins, which can be turned on and off by light. We are now aiming to expand this method into a new disease treatment.
