SCEJ 90th Annual Meeting, Student Encouragement Award
Among poster presentations by students, the research and presenters were comprehensively evaluated by industry, academia, and government judges, and were awarded to those who were in the 5% of all the presenters.
About awarded research
In the manufacturing process of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) which serve as a source for regenerative medicine products, cell bank systems are generally used to cryopreserve the manufactured cells. However, there are no clear criteria for designing working cell banks (WCBs) which cryopreserve the cells used for manufacturing, and hence WCBs have been designed empirically. Although modeling of each unit operation related to WCBs have been conducted, it is still difficult to design WCBs considering the entire passage culture and freezing process which is the core of WCBs. Therefore, in this study, we newly developed an integrated process model for MSC passage culture and freezing, and performed integrated process design using the developed model. The results of this study enable the rational design of WCBs.
Your impression & future plan
With the huge guidance and support of Prof. Hirokazu Sugiyama, the laboratory members, and the collaborators, I was able to advance my research. I am deeply grateful for their assistance. Encouraged by this award, I will dedicate myself even more to my research activities during my master's program.
