2024/11/14

On 14 November 2024, Dean Kato's lecture was held at the Engineering Building 2 of the University of Tokyo's Hongo Campus.

The lecture was attended by 100 first-year students from Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School and approximately 15 first- and second-year students from Saitama Prefectural Urawa Girls' Upper Secondary School.

We received feedback from the attendees, including comments such as: "It made me really understand how engineering is impacting society. I found it really interesting to learn that it is a field of study that could have such a huge impact on the world as a whole, with the potential to change the world with a single discovery", and "I now realize that the future of Japan and the world is in our hands, and I would like to carry out activities that will not let us down in this endeavor".

Teachers from both high schools expressed their gratitude, saying that it was a fruitful time for the students to reflect on their role in the future.

The lecture was followed by a lab tour and a roundtable discussion with alumni, and we received many positive comments, such as: "I was able to get a glimpse of the research being carried out by the professors and senior students at the University of Tokyo, and I was able to learn about a world far beyond my imagination. I'm going to do everything I can to get into the University of Tokyo".
