(Dean's log) Lecture report: "Pioneering the Universe" School of Eng., UTokyo × Sony Group Corp.

2024/09/14

On 14 September 2024, 100 people who had been selected by a lottery with more than 800 entries gathered at HASEKO-KUMA HALL in Engineering Building 11.

Dean Kato delivered an opening speech. Participants at the venue got more motivated by receiving Dean Kato's warm words such as 'Just as the universe holds infinite possibilities, your dreams and goals can also be infinitely expanded'.

Hideaki Miyamoto, a professor at Department of Systems Innovation, and Takehiro Himeno, a professor at Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, both gave a clear and easy-to-understand lecture on what could be done in space by junior and high school students, and they were fascinated by videos about space that they do not normally get to see.

There was also a demonstration of satellite imaging by a Sony staff member, and a workshop where they thought about their future career together. Two and a half hours seemed to fly by in seconds. After the lecture, the line of participants asking questions continued, and it was impressive to see how reluctant everyone was to leave the hall.
