(Dean's log) Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Urawa Akenohoshi Girls' Junior and Senior High School

2024/09/28

On 28 September 2024, the event was attended by 120 people, including 80 junior high school students and 40 high school students.

The comments we received after the lecture included "When I think of the Faculty of Engineering, I think of robots and aircraft, but I learned that there is a wider range of research fields than I had imagined, including the earth, AI, and medical-engineering collaboration" and "I am still a junior high school student, and I have not decided whether I want to study humanities or science, but I am very interested in the University of Tokyo because I could choose various classes, whether they are related to humanities or science, and I could find out what I want to do and study it after entering the university. I have decided to work hard from now on". According to a questionnaire which was taken after the lecture, their interest in the University of Tokyo and in science has increased greatly.

During the Q&A session, many of the students who raised their hands to ask questions expressed words of gratitude such as "The content of Dean Kato's response was so precise and it was a very meaningful time" and "It was a very valuable opportunity that taught me about the future, which I had never thought about deeply before, and I realised that I have the responsibility to think about my career path myself".
