Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Ishikawa Prefectural Kanazawa Izumigaoka High School

On 24 May 2024, a lecture was held for around 400 first-year students of Ishikawa Prefectural Kanazawa Izumigaoka High School.

The lecture began in a very friendly atmosphere as Dean Kato told his story from high school to becoming a researcher, while the audience laughed along. It was quite impressive to see the students listening very carefully to his lecture on the introduction to the Faculty of Engineering so as not to miss a word.

While Dean Kato was asking the students questions, they actively raised their hands in response to his questions, and their own questions were very pointed and expressed their thoughts and opinions.

We received comments such as "Because I was interested in the research being conducted at UTokyo, the lecture was very useful. I realized that I should pay attention to social trends, not just my studies" and "I only had an image of the Faculty of Engineering as machines and electricity, but now I know that it is a wonderful discipline that gives dreams to the world". We felt that they were deeply inspired by his lecture. The teachers who attended also expressed their gratitude, saying "it was a very valuable learning opportunity for the students, and their motivation for further study has increased tremendously".
