URSI Young Scientist Award

This award is presented at the General Assemblies of URSI and at the URSI Atlantic Radio Science Conferences (AT-RASC) to recognize an international group of individuals who have made innovative contributions and discoveries in multidiscipline research related to electromagnetic fields and waves.

Chipless RFID technology has been explored as a solution to low-cost individual identification systems. The CBRAM switch, a type of non-volatile switch, has been proposed as a means to embed information in chipless RFID tags. However, switching CBRAM requires direct contact between the probes and the switch electrodes for applying a DC voltage. This direct-contact method potentially causes short-circuiting of the tag antenna and degradation of switch electrodes. To address these challenges, we propose using a writer coil to induce multiple pulse voltages in the tag antenna, thereby switching the CBRAM switches without direct contact. We experimentally confirm the effectiveness of the proposed switching operation.
