Distinguished University Professor Takuzo Aida was elected as an international member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

 

On 19th April 2023, Distinguished University Professor Takuzo Aida, Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, was elected as an international member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, founded in 1780, aims to gather true leaders from various fields ranging from arts to sciences, celebrating excellence and pursuing new possibilities. It strives to address significant national and global issues by fostering all arts and sciences that promote the interests, honor, dignity, and happiness of free, independent, and virtuous individuals.

Dr. Takuzo Aida, one of five UTokyo distinguished professors, was elected as an international member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Aida, who pioneered the world of supramolecular polymers at a young age, has extensively applied its fundamental concepts to the development of dynamic materials, leading the way in artistic scientific research and technology over the years. Recently, he has been actively working towards solving the pressing environmental issue of plastic waste, which has caused significant problems such as global warming. This esteemed nomination to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences recognizes Dr. Aida's contributions and accomplishments in these endeavors.
