□ Monthly Message
In this issue, I wish to re-evaluate our core strengths in Engineering and explore how we can leverage them for our future.
In my previous message, I discussed the significance of dialogue and collaboration. This month, I would like to build on that by reflecting on the very foundation of our community: the "strengths" of our School of Engineering.
Our school is home to a vast array of specialized fields, each possessing exceptional research capabilities and a wealth of knowledge built over many years. At our core lies rigorous research, and its impact radiates outward through education and social cooperation. While these strengths have long driven our development, they are not always shared across different disciplines—sometimes remaining invisible to those in other fields. As a result, there may be aspects where our collective potential as an organization is not being fully realized.
In recent years, it has become increasingly important to create new value by integrating insights from multiple disciplines. I believe our next challenge is to find ways to connect our individual strengths and transform them into a unified, organizational force.
□ At the Forefront
In our school, a vast range of approaches is unfolding—from data utilization and advanced measurement technologies to design and system integration. When these are combined across disciplinary boundaries, they hold the potential to create even greater value.
Recently, as seen in "AI for Science," AI is becoming deeply involved in the research process—including hypothesis generation and experimental design—and is transforming the nature of research itself. This movement has the potential to influence every field. By connecting with our school's diverse research foundations, I expect to see groundbreaking new developments emerge.
