Research at SEUT
My laboratory focused on nanobiotechnology, including the use of devices to study nanoparticles. In my research, I manufactured a PDMS-based microchannel that was used to flow nanoparticle solutions, which were then analyzed using our laboratory's unique analytical system.Additionally, my research involved studying adsorption models of nanoliposome particles on PDMS surfaces to better understand the behavior of such nanoparticles.
Why I Chose SEUT
With a background in nanotechnology, I was interested in studying nanomaterials. SEUT enabled me to further develop my knowledge in this field and join a laboratory conducting the type of research I was most interested in pursuing.
Memorable Experiences
I enjoyed learning and working together with my laboratory members. Through these experiences, I improved my engineering knowledge while also building meaningful friendships.
I was particularly interested in working in a cleanroom, and I was happy to have that opportunity while conducting my nanotechnology research.
Challenges and How I Overcame Them
Initially, I was unable to communicate very well in Japanese. However, studying the language every day, especially by taking as many Japanese language classes as possible, greatly improved my skills. By graduation, I was able to communicate with my laboratory members in Japanese regarding both research and daily life.
I was also concerned about financial aspects, particularly transportation costs. Fortunately, I lived close enough to the university to commute by bicycle. This helped me save money and eventually became a hobby that I still enjoy today.
Personal and Professional Growth
Having the opportunity to conduct research in a cleanroom was invaluable because I continue to work in a cleanroom in my current position. This experience helped me transition smoothly into my professional career.
In addition, I improved my social skills significantly. Campus life provided many opportunities to meet both Japanese and international students, allowing me to become more comfortable communicating with others. These interactions also strengthened my Japanese language skills and became an important life experience.
Career Path
After graduating in September 2021, I moved to Yamaguchi Prefecture and began working in October 2021. My role involved operating and demonstrating the company's dry etching equipment in cleanroom environments to showcase its performance to customers.
In April 2024, I transferred to Ibaraki Prefecture to support the development of a new analytical instrument. As a member of the application group, I use the system and verify whether it performs according to its design specifications. In this role, I have also traveled to the United States several times to support customers using the equipment.
Message to Prospective Students
Before applying, it is important to gather as much information as possible about your desired field of study and research interests. I recommend contacting university staff and professors directly to learn more and demonstrate your interest.
Enrolling in SEUT will provide many opportunities both academically and personally. However, it is up to you to take the initiative and seek out those opportunities. Professors and fellow students can help you deepen your expertise, so make the effort to communicate with them. Participating in extracurricular activities such as clubs, circles, and events can also help you grow personally while enjoying a fulfilling student life.
Whatever decision you make, be confident in it, and you will not go wrong.
