Michihisa Ueda, Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, won the Student Poster Award in the Gordon Research Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry.

This award was sent to a student who gave a good poster presentation in the Gordon Research Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry, held at Holderness, USA. This conference is widely considered to be one of the top conferences in the field internationally.

< About awarded research >

Annulenes have been investigated for a long time because of the fundamental interest in aromaticity. However, conformational dynamics on large annulenes are scarcely investigated owning to the instability and synthetic difficulty. Herein, we developed optically active heterocycle-fused annulenes and succeeded in optical resolution of them. We successfully determined their activation free energies for chiral inversion by utilizing their CD spectrum decay profiles.
