(Dean's log) Lecture series for Junior and Senior High Schools: Sakaehigashi Junior and Senior High School

2024/10/12

On 12 October 2024, approximately 440 first-year high school students attended the lecture.

Dean Kato talked passionately about the excitement and importance of the research being conducted at the Faculty of Engineering. It was impressive to see the students eagerly take notes as soon as the presentation slides highlighting the different research being carried out at the Faculty of Engineering appeared on the screen. There were many opinions shared such as "We would like to get involved in cutting-edge technical development", "I was surprised by the range of research fields offered at the Faculty of Engineering. I understood that engineering is not only about how it relates to society in a specific way, but also that it is a field of study that can help people in need in our neighbourhood", "I felt that I wanted to become someone who changes the world, rather than leaving it to others", and "I also want to be involved in research that will change the future. I want to become an adult who works on a global scale, like Dean Kato". We also received other comments, such as "Even though I am not good at math or physics, I learned that I could continue my studies at the Faculty of Engineering depending on which field I choose. I will study hard!", "I got to know the achievements of female students at UTokyo, which I did not know before, and I wanted to go to the University of Tokyo and play an active role in the future".

The day became a stimulating one for the students, who were inspired about their own possible futures, and raised their awareness of their goals.
