Professor Hirokazu Sugiyama elected Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2023 Class of Influential Researchers – Asia and Pacific
On December 2023, Professor Hirokazu Sugiyama, Department of Chemical System Engineering, elected Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2023 Class of Influential Researchers – Asia and Pacific.
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2023 Class of Influential Researchers – Asia and Pacific
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research (I&ECR), a journal of the American Chemical Society, has selected 38 young researchers from Asia, Australia, and the Pacific region for the seventh announcement. Prof. Hirokazu Sugiyama was the only recipient from the Japanese institutes.
About awarded research
The announcement recognizes the application of process systems engineering to the field of pharmaceuticals. The special issue of the journal, which consolidates the research of the selected authors, published a novel hybrid model integrating mechanistic and AI models for the flow synthesis of active ingredients by the Grignard reaction (continuous synthesis) (J. Kim, et al., 2023). Including this study, Prof. Sugiyama has been conducting modeling and simulation research on manufacturing processes for antibiotics, therapeutic antibodies, stem cells, etc., with the aim of systematizing process design and operation methodologies.
Your impression & future plan
I am very honored to be recognized as an influential researcher. Taking this opportunity, I would like express my sincere gratitude to all the collaborators for their guidance and support, and the members of Sugiyama-Badr lab for their effort.
I will continue my best to continue to present research results globally.
