<About the Research>
Data is an indispensable aspect of our daily lives. The data that are collected and accumulated in real time from a wide variety of sources are the object of many computer processing applications and are important sources for supporting human decision-making. To elucidate how every activity can be related to humans and data, I am working on two main research issues: (1) The development of support technologies for data design to observe and convert events that have not yet been converted into data and (2) the systematic and comprehensive understanding of data ecosystems.

・ Support Technology for Data Origination from Unobserved Events
Although valuable data are constantly being exchanged and shared across a diverse set of applications, the methodology and technology for observing and converting otherwise unobserved events into data remain undeveloped. By employing the collective intelligence of the cognitive processes involved in data acquisition, I aim to develop support technologies for data collection, informatization, and decision-making to support data from previously unobserved or unattended ecosystems.

・ System Design and Dynamics of the Data Exchange Market
Value discovery and the creation of businesses through cross-disciplinary data exchange and collaboration have attracted considerable attention as a new source of innovation with respect to data. However, beyond that, a comprehensive understanding of data, its relevant legal regulations, and the dynamics of human interactions, along with the rulemaking and market designs based on them, are concerning issues in data technology. In this research, I aim to design a system for improving the data exchange market by clarifying and understanding the factors that contribute to the growth of a robust and secure data marketplace.

<Future aspirations>
Data constitute the very human activities of observing, recording, and communicating with the world, and the role, function, and importance of data changes as technology advances. One interesting change in recent years has been in how data have been treated as a material for exchange and distribution.
There are a large number of cross-disciplinary research areas that are worth further developing, and I believe that elucidation of the mechanisms behind how our society works with data and its associated technological development will substantially contribute to the coming data-driven society. In the future, I intend to further focus on creating research communities in Japan and overseas to disseminate the appeal of this field of research.
