In order to achieve this goal, it is important to tackle issues transcending gender equality boundaries rather than pursuing equal rights for both genders with an ‘of women, by women and for women’ approach. We believe that by eliminating trait bias, we can eliminate opportunity loss of and social loss that bias can cause, and create a place where diverse, brilliant people can thrive. At the same time however, the percentage of female UTokyo students and faculty is overwhelmingly low and males form the majority. Given this situation, one of the first steps we can take is to increase the female percentage and attribute more weight to their opinions. Furthermore, the introduction of female role models is important so that young women can form an image of what work women actually do. Additionally, as well as gaining women’s cooperation, we need the understanding and cooperation of men and individuals in discretionary leadership positions and we hope our work includes raising the awareness of all faculty members.
