Research at SEUT
I completed a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in GV Laboratory, a research group focusing on human-robot interaction. My master's thesis explored ways to adapt a robot's behavior based on human feedback in order to make its movements more engaging and interesting for users.
Why I Chose SEUT
The main reason I chose UTokyo was GV Laboratory, the laboratory I joined for my master's degree. I first spent six months there as an intern and enjoyed both the research and the atmosphere so much that I decided to stay for two more years and pursue my master's studies in the lab.
Memorable Experiences
One of my most memorable experiences was presenting my robot and research to high school students. It was a valuable opportunity to explain my work in a simple and accessible way, and it made me feel proud of the research I had accomplished.
Outside the laboratory, I have great memories of participating in the University Festival with friends I met at UTokyo, where we operated a festival stall together. I also joined the soccer team and traveled throughout Japan for tournaments, which allowed me to meet many people and discover different parts of the country.
Challenges and How I Overcame Them
The biggest challenges were administrative matters, such as opening a bank account, changing my residence status, and filing taxes. Managing these processes by myself was difficult because of the language barrier. Fortunately, Japanese students in my laboratory helped me through these procedures, which made everything much easier.
Personal and Professional Growth
Campus life helped me build lasting friendships and broaden my perspective. Many of my friends had prior work experience before coming to UTokyo, and conversations with them gave me valuable insights into different career paths. Academically, I improved my Japanese language ability as well as my programming and robotics skills through coursework and laboratory research. These experiences helped me transition smoothly into my professional career.
Career Path
After graduating, I returned to France and began working in the fields of Data Engineering and Data Science for a supply chain company.
Message to Prospective Students
Studying at UTokyo was an exciting and rewarding experience. I met amazing people, explored Japan more deeply during my two years there, and continuously challenged myself through research and engineering studies. I would highly recommend the experience to international students who are considering applying to SEUT.
