On 27th July 2018, Keiichi Yano (PhD student), Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, won the awardILCC-Kyoto Poster Award at the 27th International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC2018).
This award was presented to young researchers who gave a distinguished poster presentation in the 27th International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC2018).

●About awarded research
When shape-different molecules, such as rods and disks, are mixed in condensed phases, they tend to exclude one another and undergo a macroscopic phase separation. Here, by employing a molecularly-engineered disk-shaped monomer together with rod-shaped nematic liquid crystals (LCs), we succeeded in the construction of hybrid core–shell columnar LCs, where rod and disk modules are coassembled in a molecular level. The core–shell columnar LCs are rapidly responsive to external stimuli and modularly customizable in their core and shell parts, enabling us to realize unprecedented emergent properties.

●Your impression & future plan
It is my great honor to receive this poster award. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Prof. Dr. Takuzo Aida and also our lab colleagues for all of their supports. I will devote myself to studying and deepening my research.
