IPSJ Yamashita SIG Research Award

This award is given to the presenter of a particularly excellent paper selected from among the papers presented at research meetings and symposiums.

About awarded research

Wearable sensors, which can be worn and carried around, are expected in the fields of healthcare and activity recognition. However, the sensors are bulky because they need to be equipped with a wireless communication module and battery for data collection, and they also require users to periodically charge the battery. This paper proposes a body-scale, highly-sensitive, textile-based reader coil that can wirelessly read out sensor values from battery-free sensors placed on different locations of the body. With this, we achieved an ideal wearable sensing platform where sensor is lightweight and thin, yet has no need of battery management.
