【Young Faculty:021】Yuji Noguchi, Associate Professor: Miyayama laboratory, Department of Applied Physics

 

Biography
Associate Professor, Department of Applied Chemistry, (September 2014 ? present). I received, the Young Investigator Award of the Ceramic Society of Japan, the Ferroelectrics Young Investigator Award of the IEEE-UFFC(Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society), and the Richard M. Fulrath Award from the American Ceramic Society

My research work is to develop new electronic materials targeting the energy conversion function in polar solids. Research and development of electronic ceramic and thin-film devices exhibiting advanced functions than conventional are being carried out by materials design based on structural-material science by controlling defects and/or electronic states of interfaces. Specifically, 1. Design of polar materials for solar cells through electronic-state control of defects/interfaces (Nat. Commun., 2017), 2. Enhanced piezoelectricity by novel structural response (Sci. Rep., 2016), 3. Discovery of giant photovoltaic effect in polar interfaces (Sci. Rep., 2015, Electronic version of Nihon Keizai Shimbun).


 

Function of polar interfaces emerges not only in ferroelectrics but also in materials with spontaneous polarization. In my research, polar semiconductor oxides and nitrides with very large spontaneous polarization are also considered as a candidate. I promote the research and development for these materials by exploiting the function of polarization interfaces.
