About awarded research
The study examines studentification as an overlooked driver of urban transformation in Manila, showing how university expansion and private development have intensified densification, altered neighborhood character, and strained community environments. Through historical analysis, mapping, and policy review, the research identifies governance and planning gaps that enabled uneven and unsustainable urban change. The work highlights the need for more equitable and engaged policy interventions in student-dense districts.
