Todai team is now on Round Two of Airbus Fly Your Ideas 2015
Fly Your Ideas is a global student competition organized by Airbus, an aircraft manufacture company, in partnership with UNESCO. 518 teams from 94 countries submitted their idea corresponding to six key aviation challenges in Round One of the fourth edition of the competition and 100 teams made it into Round Two.
From Japan 12 teams challenged in Round One and only two teams made it into Round Two. The team of Mr. Miyatani (Master 2nd year of Aeronautics and Astronautics), Mr. Nakamura, Mr. Uenishi and Mr. Vinayavekhin (Bachelor 4th year of System Innovation) of our department and Mr. Kimura (Master 2nd year of Socio-cultural Environmental Studies) of Frontier Science are the one and proposes an idea to reduce the birdstrike risks by guiding birds to an artificial breeding sites with UAV.
At Round Two from this January to March, they worked hard to complete a report of 5000 words and two minutes video, which tells the detail and feasibility of their ideas. To develop their ideas, they visited numbers of airports, airlines and experts of bird breeding. Two Airbus employees and one assistant professor of Tokyo University (Dr. Nakamura, Center for Aviation Innovation Research) were assigned as the team mentors and the team experienced numbers of oversea TV conference. The team is also encouraged to report their activity on the social media, called Team Line at the Fly Your Ideas homepage.
Only five teams can make it into Round Three and are invited to France for the Final in May 2015. The selection to Round Three will be announced in the late of this April.
