Overview:  

Dr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), will be visiting UTokyo to give a short lecture to UTokyo students.

He is currently the sixth Director General of IAEA. Prior to his appointment as Director General, he served as the Nominated Chair of the 2020 Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and as Chair of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) from 2014 to 2016. In 2015, he hosted the Nuclear Safety Treaty Diplomatic Conference, and contributed to the unanimous adoption of the Vienna Declaration, an important milestone in the international effort following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. More recently, he has been involved in the reviewing of plans to discharge treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean, with the aim of providing a neutral assessment.

This event, entitled "Dialogue with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and UTokyo Students," will feature a presentation by Director General Grossi, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session. Students interested in nuclear energy and international careers are welcome to attend.
