On 15th December 2016, Mr. Toshiaki Takeuchi, Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, wins a CSJ Poster Presentation Award 2016 for Excellent Research.

Supramolecular polymerization generally follows step-growth mechanism, so it has been considered difficult to control degree of polymerization and polydispersity. Meanwhile, in 2015, we also reported the first initiator-driven chain-growth supramolecular polymerization by designing a metastable monomer and an initiator using a bowl-shaped molecule called colannulene. As a continuation study, we have synthesized bowl-shaped monomers with different molecular designs and investigated behaviors in solution. As a result, it was revealed that the metastable state of the monomer for realizing supramolecular chain polymerization depends largely on the strength of the intramolecular hydrogen bond, and it is based on the balance of exquisite molecular design . We also found that the behavior in solution varies greatly due to the different intramolecular hydrogen bond strengths.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Prof. Takuzo Aida and lab members. I’d like to take this opportunity to activate and promote my research.
