On 25th July 2019, Mayuko Takakura(M2), Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, received Excellent Research Award of the 21st general meeting of the RNA society of Japan.
<About awarded research>
Transfer RNA (tRNA) is an adaptor molecule that links codon and amino acid during translation. tRNAs are decorated with a number of chemical modifications which play critical roles in tRNA stability and precise decoding. In this reseach, we identified a novel tRNA-modifying enzyme and successfully reconstituted the corresponding tRNA modification in vitro. Furthermore, we observe a specific phenotype of the strain in witch the target modification was depleted.

It's a great honor to receive this award. I greatly appreciate Prof. Tsutomu Suzuki and all members of Suzuki laboratory.
I will devote myself to studying and deepening my research.
