On 14th March 2025, CASTRO Michael (D1) , Sakai Lab., Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, recieved Student Poster Session Excellence Award at the Atomic Energy Society of Japan 2025 Annual Meeting.

Student Poster Session Excellence Award
This award is given to students who presented outstanding posters at the Atomic Energy Society of Japan 2025 Annual Meeting’s Student Poster Sessions.

About awarded research
Poster Title: Reduced-order Modeling of Heat Transfer in Gas–Solid Flows with Deep Learning
Summary: Reduced-order models (ROMs) can be utilized to construct digital twins. In this study, we propose an ROM for fluidized beds with heat transfer (gas–solid two-phase flow). The proposed ROM was developed using Lanczos-based proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and LSTM neural networks.

Your impression & future plan
I am extremely honored to have received “Student Poster Session Excellence Award”. I am also deeply thankful to the members of Sakai Laboratory, especially Professor Mikio SAKAI, Project Assistant Professor Shuo LI, Mr. Toshiki IMATANI (D3), and Mr. Kai-en YANG (D3) for their guidance and contribution to this research and this accomplishment. I plan on developing my research further by exploring new and innovative methods for creating digital twins for granular and multi-phase flow systems.
