Rie Matsumoto "The School of Engineering gave me a good balance between life events and my career"

I chose to study engineering because I liked robots.

In addition, I thought I would be able to acquire technological knowledge and skills.

I thought that even if my position changed or I had to face life events, I would be able to continue working if I had acquired enough knowledge and skills.

Although I went into mechanical engineering, I always tried to take the chance to think broadly, such as by taking a course in bioinformatics during summer vacation.

I think the appeal of the School of Engineering is that it has programs that allow students to learn across the board.

I feel that it is the best environment for conducting research, as well as for broadening one's perspective on society and creating possibilities.

My interest in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry grew as I pursued my research and job search, so I joined the Ministry, and here I am today.

I am currently using my maternity leave for my second child to study abroad in the UK.

The large amount of English material I read as a student has been useful in my daily work and overseas assignments, and the management skills and logical thinking I developed while at school are still very much in use now that I am out in the workforce.
