"The structure and fate of microbes utilizing algal organic matter in limnetic microbial loop"Recently, organic matter produced by algae has been issues on drinking water treatment and environmental standard achievement in lake. While it is important to reveal the fate of algal organic matter in lake, microbes degrading it still remain unknown. In this study, organic matter produced by cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa was labelled with carbon thirteen and added to lake water. After incubation, microbes assimilating it were identified by DNA stable isotope probing. We revealed that Limnohabitans quickly utilized algal organic matter and that they were preferentially grazed by flagellates and ciliates. Moreover, we compared the abundance of Limnohabitans with that of cyanobacteria and found a close relationship between these.
