<About awarded research>

Regenerating brake is used for efficient operation, when traction motors are used as generators. Energy-saving in train operation can be achieved by improving the running mode through the effective usage of this brake . However, regenerative power cannot be used when there are no other timely accelerating trains near the braking train in DC-electrified electric railways since the trains have no energy storage devices. Train run-curve design has been optimized in this study based on maximal powering, coasting and maximal braking algorithm for energy saving. Power-limiting brake has been introduced at high speed operation, for better use of regenerative brake. In addition, driving support systems are developed based on the consideration of operation delay algorithm because of the difficulty in real-time actions of a train driver. Energy can be saved in train operation, and other effectiveness of this braking patterns have been verified through experimental results in revenue service line.
