42nd annual meeting of Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) Japan Chapter, Student Session, “Best Presentation Award”

<About awarded research>
「Identification of nuclear material theft behavior in nuclear facilities using the object detection model and pose estimation model」
Summary: Most of the nuclear security incidents worldwide are theft of nuclear materials and other radioactive materials by insiders. Since the theft of nuclear materials and other radioactive materials is performed by insider threats under the guise of normal operations, it is difficult to prevent it with the current countermeasures such as material accountancy. In this study, we proposed a method to detect theft disguised as normal operation from surveillance cameras based on time series data of unit actions that do not include typical theft actions, while considering the diversity of sequences by insiders.

<Your impression & future plan>
Most of the nuclear security incidents are the theft of nuclear and radioactive materials by insiders. These occur 140 times a year in the world, and I feel shocked. I will continue to develop technology for detecting nuclear material theft in nuclear security and make daily efforts to significantly reduce the number of incidents.
