Project Assistant Professor Guangtao DUAN won Young Researcher Award of Computational Science and Engineering Division, Atomic Energy Society of Japan

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉
Young Researcher Award of Computational Science and Engineering Division, Atomic Energy Society of Japan.
The award is given to the researcher who had made a significant progress for the numerical methods in nuclear engineering.

About awarded research〉
The solid-fluid interaction model, the solid-solid collision model, the heat transfer model and the solid-liquid phase change model were coupled into an advanced particle method, so that the debris remelting inside the reactor lower plenum in a severe accident were simulated for the first time. The influence of various parameters on reactor ablation patterns via the local hot spots were analyzed. It is found that the large debris tended to result in lower failure points and that the high decay power could cause both upper and lower failure points.

〈Your impression & future plan〉
It is a huge honor for me to receive this award, which is a great encouragement to me. Particularly, I would express my gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Sakai for his inspiring guidance. This award will always be a reminder of the hard work that I have put into the research. Moreover, it will motivate me to continue the current research more confidently in the future.
