School of Engineering, UTokyo Signed Agreement on Academic Exchange with National Centre for Nuclear Research, Poland

A ceremony to sign an Agreement on Academic Exchange between the School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo and the National Centre for Nuclear Research, Poland (NCBJ) was held in Warsaw on January 28, 2019. In the signing ceremony, Prof. Okamoto (School of Engineering) met NCBJ Director, Krzysztof Kurek. Following the signing ceremony, a series of discussions were made to accelerate future collaborations based on this Agreement on Academic Exchange.

In Poland, the project of utilization of nuclear energy is underway in the current trend of decarbonized energy development. In this project, a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) is promoted as an industrial heat sources. In thefield of HTGR, Japan has the world's most advanced research and development achievements. The experimental reactor called the high-temperature test reactor (HTTR), operated by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, achieved a world-record outlet temperature of 950℃. Based on these mutual backgrounds, it is expected that the exchange of students and researchers of nuclear energy can promote the energy capabilities in both countries.
