On 20th March 2018, KIM, Hyunsoo (Ph.D.candidate), Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, received Young Researcher Award at the 21st IEICE Electronics Society.

I received young researcher award from the 21st IEICE Electronics Society, by being elected as the best paper in the field of electromagnetic theory and microwave.

<About awarded research>

Paper: “Polarimetric Feature Extraction Based on Quaternion Auto-Encoder and Self-Organization Mapping for Unsupervised PolSAR Land Classification”

In this paper, we proposed an unsupervised PolSAR land classification system based on the combination of quaternion auto-encoder and quaternion SOM, and succeeded in discoveries of new detailed land categories that were not treated as classification targets in conventional methods. We expect that these research results expand utilization range of PolSAR land classification in the near future.
