<About awarded research>

Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) is one of the most common diagnostic techniques and we often utilize contrast agents to enhance the quality of images. Now gadolinium-ion complexes are mainly utilized for contrast agents. However, recently gadolinium are found to remain in the brain after diagnosis and development of new alternatives.
In this research, we used iron oxide nanoparticles which is known to be non-toxic but low performance. We discovered that by designing surface ligand for nanoparticles, we discovered that the performances are dramatically improved by designing surface ligands for iron oxide nanoparticles.
