On 14th June 2019, Soshi Shimomura (second year of Master's degree (last year), A.Hirose Lab.) , Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, received the 2018 IEEE AES Japan Chapter Best Student Paper Award at the IEICE SANE Technical Meeting held in JAXA ISAS, Sagamihara.

<About awarded research>

Paper “Adaptive processing of time domain information by complex-valued self-organizing map in GPR”
This paper proposes a new imaging method which is enable to cluster and visualize targets in ground penetrating radar. Features of the method is to utilize phase of scattered electromagnetic wave at targets and adaptively process the high-dimensional complex-amplitude (amplitude and phase) by using a complex-valued self-organizing map.

<Your impression & future plan>

I am honored and appreciate to receive the best student award from such a great international society . I would like to make further efforts further.
