On 20th September 2018, Yuki Mori (M2), Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, won "Symposium Award(Presentation Award) " at 50th Symposium of The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan.
It was given for the superior presentation by student at this symposium.

<About awarded research>
Circulating fluidized bed is an important machine in the field of chemical engineering. Because it shows complex phenomena, numerical simulations are often performed. DEM-CFD method, one of the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach, is often used for simulation of gas-solid flow. Although this method is well established, it has a problem of substantial limit of number of calculated particles. Because of this difficulty, simulation of large-scale circulating fluidized bed is very difficult. Then, to solve these problems, coarse grain model is introduced, in which a crowd of particles are represented by a large particle. By using coarse grain model, we performed numerical simulation of circulating fluidized bed, which has 400 million particles. Then, we perform an experiment under comparable conditions with numerical simulation and validate accuracy of numerical simulation.
