<About Awarded Research>
The removal of fuel debris is the big issue for the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. Because the direct observation is substantially impossible due to the severe environment, the introduction of numerical simulation technique is desired to investigate the fundamental behavior. The modeling of the gas-solid multiphase flow is indispensable to predict the scattering of the radioactive dust in the removal process. Besides, the control of criticality is extremely important to secure the safety. In this study, we developed the coupling method between DEM-CFD (Discrete Element Method and Computational Fluid Dynamics) method and MCNP (Monte Carlo N-Particle). This method enabled to evaluate the criticality state during the gas-solid multiphase flow.
