On13th March 2025, Masafumi Komiya (B4) , Sakai Lab., Department of Systems Innovation, recieved The Best Student Award at SCEJ 90th Annual Meeting.

The Best Student Award at SCEJ 90th Annual Meeting
This award is given to the most outstanding poster presentations by students at SCEJ 90th Annual Meeting.

About awarded research
Powder die filling is a crucial process in various industrial fields, including pharmaceutical production, powder metallurgy, and ceramic molding. Powder die filling involves various complex physical phenomena, and it has been established that the suction effect enhances filling efficiency. In this study, we aimed to elucidate a new mechanism of the suction effect by conducting a quantitative analysis of the forces acting on particles during suction filling using numerical simulations based on the DEM-CFD method. Understanding the mechanism of the suction effect revealed in this study is expected to enable theory-based design of operating conditions in industrial processes.

Your impression & future plan
I am deeply honored to receive such a prestigious award. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Mikio Sakai for his continuous guidance and support. I am also deeply thankful to the members of Sakai lab for their various advice and support. Despite this being my first time attending an academic conference meeting, I was able to receive the Best Student Award as an undergraduate, which I believe is entirely due to the support of those around me. Encouraged by this recognition, I will continue pursuing my research with even greater dedication.
