On 20 January 2025, 100 first-year students attended the lecture held in the Building 2 of the University of Tokyo.
The majority of the students had never visited UTokyo before and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of the buildings and rooms, which provide a comfortable space for studying.
We have received comments from the students who listened to the lecture such as: "I had an image of the School of Engineering as being just about science studies, but the lecture has broadened my understanding and learning by helping me discover the connections between various fields", "By listening to Dean Kato's lecture, I now have a new, more global perspective that helps me understand the economic development of Japan", "It struck me that I was ignorant of the world of the Faculty of Engineering. I am really pleased that I could attend such a lecture which showed how research can connect with the real concerns of society". Not only students, but also teachers commented that it was really inspiring.
The students received a message from Dean Kato saying that 'you will shape the future'. It was a lecture that profoundly inspired them to create new paths through their own actions and challenges.
