Fellow of Web Intelligence Academy Web Intelligence(WI)

Fellow of Web Intelligence Academy Web Intelligence (WI) is an academic field established at the beginning of the 21st century, and refers to artificial intelligence in a connected world that utilizes the power of the human brain and artificial networks in order to realize a better world and an intelligent society. Its scope includes the connections (web) of people, data, objects, trust, agents, and everything in industry, society, health, and smart living. WI has been researching and developing cutting-edge technologies such as data mining, machine learning, knowledge graphs, intelligent agents, and natural language processing, which contribute to the development of intelligent tools and services that provide valuable insights personalized for users through the analysis of web data. Current WI research and applications include AIGC internet content creation, pre-trained language models, machine learning, digital twins, Web3 and metaverse, brain-inspired computing, and brain-machine intelligence. Rapidly evolving, WI holds great potential for improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience of web-based systems, applications, and services. Over the past two decades, WI has evolved into a cutting-edge research field that addresses open questions in understanding phenomena in a world of diverse connections and developing future AI. The Web Intelligence Consortium (WIC) ( http://wi-consortium.org/ ) is an international non-profit organization established in 2001 to promote scientific research and industrial development, promotes cooperation between WI research centers and organizational members around the world, and organizes top WI-related conferences and workshops, as well as publishing official books, journals, newsletters, industrial solutions, and standards. In 2022, the WIA was established under the Web Intelligence Consortium (WIC). , it promotes the advancement of science, engineering, and technology by recognizing and honoring leading experts, academics, researchers, and practitioners who have made significant contributions to the field of WI. The WIA Fellow is one of the awards that has a central position on the WIC website, and was established in 2023.

About awarded research

The award of the Fellow to Prof. Ohsawa was made in accordance with the aims of the WIA, which encourages collaboration and exchange around the world, and promotes the joint creation of ideas, innovation, knowledge and interdisciplinary understanding, and the development of new-generation AI technology that will create an intelligent society in the future, with the aim of promoting “WI = AI in a connected world”. The award of fellow was given in recognition of his significant contributions to international research on technology that evaluates the value of information based on its connections to various information, phenomena, and situations, and then enhances and utilizes it, as well as his long-term leadership and consistent support for the WI community. The WIA Fellow Selection Committee nominated him as one of the seven WIA Fellows for 2024 and decided to award him the prize.

Comment by Professor Osawa

I understand that WI is a field that can enhance the value of the earth itself by increasing the value of various information, objects, and situations, not just the Internet. I am truly honored to be a Fellow of the most central society on WI. I would like to continue to work hard on research and education that contributes to the co-evolution of AI, HI (human intelligence), and both.
