On 6 December 2024, the lecture, which was held in the gymnasium, was attended by 560 first- and second-year students, along with 60 parents and teachers.
The audience listened attentively to the Dean's lecture on research on seafloor mineral resources, which were unfamiliar to them, and on the various research efforts at the Faculty of Engineering at UTokyo. Feedback from students included comments such as: “I learned that the university is a place where you can realize your potential to the fullest, as shown in the slide of a Saga Nishi graduate. I was surprised that there are opportunities for collaborating with companies, and for women to contribute to society”, and “I realized that the professors at the Faculty of Engineering at UTokyo are active at the forefront of their respective fields, working towards the goal of human development. I thought that I would like to study under the supervision of these professors. I was filled with high expectations and ambitions for the University of Tokyo. The opportunity to attend the lecture inspired both my intellectual curiosity, and my motivation to succeed in my entrance exams for the University of Tokyo”. During the Q&A session, which lasted for a long time after the lecture, many students asked questions and received advice tailored to each individual.
We also received many words of thanks: “The lecture was very inspiring for the students, their parents, and teachers, and gave them hope for the future”.
